With a pencil, brush or other art tool, I have been attempting to capture the world around me since I was a child. Growing up near a university and college (my father was a teacher) exposed me to a wide variety of social and cultural experiences, which included music and art lessons with a local artist. While I enjoyed the music, the older I got, the more I found I loved art and producing artwork. After a number of years doing this, that and the other, I returned to college and earned a B.S. degree in Art, emphasis in painting.
My artwork is the result of three personal passions: nature, photography and painting. My paintings largely begin as ideas and feelings I get while I'm out in nature. I then use photography to capture imagery that I later refer to while creating my paintings.
Although my artwork is photorealistic in nature, I am not attempting to produce paintings that "look just like a photo." Instead, I am trying to visually express something of what I have experienced and seen of the places I portray . Ulitimately, in painting this artwork, my hope is that I am able to share some of the enjoyment I experience when I visit these places.
